MY TAKE ON THE PARK
What a refreshing experience when you attend a game at a new ballpark and the park exceeds every expectation you have.
Coca Cola Park in the Lehigh Valley is exactly what you would want in a ballpark experience. A spacious and comfortable seat in a cozy park.
Set in Allentown the park is not located in the most convenient of areas but once at the park, none of that matters. $3 allows you to park in one of the many lots which surround the park. Even better, the lot is completely paved.
Once you enter the park, they have an East and a West entrance, not sure why there are separate entrances. From the East entrance, you enter into the right field corner. A spacious 360 degree concourse (their word) surrounds the park. What makes this park so great is that you can walk around the park, but even better is it doesn't feel like you are walking 50 miles. The park is small and the seating curves at down the right field line and down the left field line is the picnic area.
Two aspects of the seating area are found here, there is a picnic area down the left field line offering ticket holders a buffet and a bar stool and table to enjoy the game.
The other is the outfield lawn where they have a few ledges so you can put your drink down while watching the game.
As for the game, it is handled as good as everything else. The
promotions are quick and to the point, not interrupting the flow of the game. The scoreboard is state of the art, very clear, and an auxiliary scoreboard gives previous at bats between the advertisements and out of town scores.
A trip to Coca Cola Park in Allentown is highly recommended. Like any other successful franchise, everyone here exceeds on the Customer Service level. From the ticket window to the concessions and from the ushers to the vendors, everyone here is looking to help or offer
assistance. Many times they are just offering a smile or a kind word about the park.
Be aware of the popularity of the team. Tickets are not easy to come by and a last minute trip idea doesn't always work. General admission seats are ok due to the ledge around the outfield area.
The Iron Pigs, the Reading Phillies, and Scranton / Wilkes - Barre Yankees have proven that northeastern Pa. is a great place for baseball.
